Lair
Lair is an interior/exterior tile set placed inside of a dark cave that is being transformed into the worked stone of the player's own Lair. It is broken into two parts; the Lair Hub, and the Lair Dungeon. Attacking players enter the Lair Dungeon when attempting to raid other player's Lair's. Upon completing the Lair Dungeon, attacking players get special rewards and a sneak peak at the defending player's Lair Hub.
The Lair Hub is the player's home base. In the Lair Hub the player has the ability to craft items, weapons and armor, buff their Lair Dungeon, choose the enemy set for their Lair Dungeon, choose their character's abilities, and choose which quests or raids to attempt. Some of these upgrades require the player to build room additions, which require an off and on state for each room. In the off state, the room is non-existent, and usually a wall is in its place. Both the off and on state for each room addition had to work in harmony with the main Lair Hub as well as other room additions, which required careful planning and design.
Redecorating the Lair Dungeon and Lair Hub is also a main component in allowing the player to personalize their experience. The player has the ability to choose in his/her Lair Hub decorations that give a unique and personalized appearance to their Lair Hub and Dungeon. These decorations had to be placed strategically, as they could be any of hundreds of assets chosen by the player.
For all photos shown, I created the layout of the entire sector. I also placed props, designed encounters, scripted bridges and gates, added dynamic point lighting, and modified the navigational mesh to allow the player and NPCs movement.
